Fight 5
A home international bout as Luke Nesbitt Reay from Darlington (The Lab MMA) took on Scotsman Cody Lindsey (Goliath MMA). Both lads making their amateur MMA debuts.

Round 1
A touch of gloves and we are off. Low leg kicks are the opening attack for both sides.

Cody is able to catch one and, after a stiff right hand, bundle Luke over. Luke on his back in an unconventional position chased a leg looking to lock up a submission.

This encouraged Cody to disengage the ground game a return to a standing fight.

Luke also regained his feet shortly after that. Cody covering distance with a one two, whilst Luke fired straight right hands that pushed Cody back, but it was Luke who pulled or jumped guard.

Luke with his back on the canvas and a high guard looked for a submission. Cody was not having that and showed a good understanding and defence. Both landed the occasional head shot. Cody almost passed to side control, but he could not secure the position and Luke was able to land an up kick that also allowed him to regain his feet. Luke chased and completed a takedown that landed him in top guard. Cory had a tight guillotine. Luke’s face was changing colour, it looked dodgy until his arm came over the top and started to apply pressure to Cory’s throat in the classic escape.

Finally Lukes head popped out. He was able to land some heavy strikes as the 10 second clapper sounded and the round came to an end.

Round 2
Scrappy start to the round and after a slip Luke secedes with a take down.

Landing in half guard, but again defending a guillotine choke.

Luke’s head popped free. Chasing strikes Cody recovered to butterfly guard. Luke passed, then Cody defended with a knee shield. Luke was continually chipping away and constantly testing Cody’s ground game. Finally he established a solid mount and was able to strike away.

With 46 seconds left the referee, Alan Howcroft, was left with no option, but to step in. A very hard fought fight from both contestants.

Luke won via relentless ground and pound at 2:14 of the second round. A round of applause for Cody who put up some outstanding resistance.
